First meeting of the Pittsfield Website Committee called to order 7:00, August 13, 2007
Members present: Clayton Wood, Chairman, Bob Legg, Donald Chase, Matt Goodwin,
Bill Provencal, Webmaster/Secretary
Introduction of new members. Each member introduced themselves and gave a brief
description of their background and expertise in websites.
Webmasters Report:
E Mails
John Tarr a resident of Concord asked that his business be linked to the town
website. It was felt that since business not located in Pittsfield, to link to it would set a
precedent. Motion made and seconded not to link to the town website. A
recommendation was made by Clayton to develop and acceptance standard for business
links.
Lynne Joyce, Director, Pittsfield AREA Senior Center had questions in reference
to sale of raffle tickets over the internet, creation of a website, Craig’s List. Don Chase
indicated he would talk to Lynne about her problem.
Weekly Website Stats were handed out and discussed. Members felt no need to
receive stats by e-mail.
Minutes from Committees Bill discussed difficulty with receiving minutes from
several committees and that the situation with almost all committers has dramatically
improved. He indicated that he had talked to Leon Kenison, Town Administrator about
the problem with Economic Development Committee. Other minute problems were with
the School Board, Bill to look into this.
BOS Member as a member of website committee. Committee felt at this time
no need to have a representative of the BOS on our board.
Nominations/Election of Chairman and Secretary
Clayton Wood was elected Chairman of the Website Committee
Bill Provencal was elected Secretary of the Website Committee
Mission Statement
The need for a mission statement was discussed. It was felt that we needed to
know what direction the website was going and the need to establish goals, and priorities,
prior to establishing a Mission Statement.
Site Map
Copies to the Pittsfield Web Site Map were handed out. It was felt that the first
order of business would be the re-working the front page and the Town Government
section. For the next meeting, we will work on the Index Page. Don presented several
webpage formats that he has created for a Virtual Town approach for the Town
Government page. Don will send the committee members links to review for next
meeting.
Blogs
Clayton discussed the use of blog’s in inputting data into the website and how it
would improve the usefulness of the website in providing up to date data for website
users. Considerable discussion was given to this topic and how we might implement it
into the website. Clayton will send us links to a secure blog he has created specifically
for the website committee, so we can examine and discuss at our next meeting.
Webmasters Role
The webmasters role and how duties might be shared with other members of the
committee were discussed. It was decided that duties needed to be shared for any
significant changes to be made. Bill brought out the concern that the BOS had a few
years back about control of the website by one person. Don was going to talk to the
Town Administrator to clarify the authority of the website committee.
Forms and Ordinances
Don will talk to the Town Administrator about getting all of the forms and
ordinances converted over to .PDF format.
Next Meeting Tentatively scheduled for September 17, 2007 at 7pm at the Town Hall
