Pittsfield Website Committee
August 18, 2008
The Pittsfield Website Committee was called to order @ 7:08 pm.
Members present:
Clayton Wood, Chair
Bob Legg

1. Minutes of July 21, 2008: Minutes accepted.
2. Ongoing Business
a. Contact information: Information has been updated and expanded. Tracking down phone numbers and related contact information is now easier.
b. Slide Show: Slide show is working well. Bob controls content.
c. Document Format: Clayton is converting town documents to PDF format.
d. Balloon Rally: No comments received on coverage of rally events which is seen as a good sign. Rally schedule received 600 hits in 3 days.
e. Google Maps: “Drake Park” now listed on Google as “Drake Field”.
f. Minutes Archive: Categories are now displayed but not as links. This appears to be a cleaner format. Minutes and committee agendas are displayed in the order that they are received as a result these items are not always displayed chronologically. Clayton will address by changing the date of the posting to match the date the meeting was held.
g. Moving To Pittsfield Page: Kelly Chisholm attended this portion of the meeting to discuss listing information frequently requested by individuals either thinking about moving to Pittsfield or are new to the area. Kelly noted that this page is frequently the first point of contact for people looking at Pittsfield. The information these people are looking at is typically the same:
i. School system
ii. Services (Realtors, plowing, U-Haul, home improvement)
iii. Utility company information (gas, electric, oil, cable, phone)
iv. Government (vehicle registration)
Committee discussed listing and book marking this information by category on the Moving to Pittsfield page. Because the Website Committee is a committee not a commission, it cannot raise money off of links.
Committee will work on developing a policy for listing and displaying information on the page.
h. Email Accounts: A subject line is automatically associated with the various email accounts reflecting who the email is addressed to. This helps those who are copied to sort through the email and address as appropriate.
i. Pittsfield Players: Will be moved to front page as part of the navigation bar.
j. Emergency Assistance: Clayton spoke with police and fire departments about getting emergency information onto the website. Police are in charge of emergency planning. No set action to implement at this time.
k. Military Information Form: Solicits information on who is currently serving in the military. Form will be located on Historical Society page.
l. National Night Out: PDF file obtained from newspaper will be placed on the website.
3. New Business
a. Pittsfield Drug and Alcohol Coalition (PDAC): Clayton has site up and running.
b. Sub web Support: Clayton has looked at various options for allowing user (library, fire department etc) generated content. Blog is too restrictive. Free website creation tools create too much “junk” behind the scenes. Clayton suggested Serena Prototype Composer (http://www.serena.com/products/prototype-composer/home.html). Program is user friendly, allows end user creation of content with limited access to files. Clayton will look into setting up template for users.
4. Projects
a. School Website: Clayton will be meeting with the School’s technology committee to see how he or the committee can help with the School’s website. Pittsfield’s Website Committee to discuss options for assisting the School.
b. Economic Development Committee: Bob Legg is working with the EDC in the posting of business related photos on the committee’s website.
