Parks and Recreation Committee
August 6, 2007
Members in attendance: Jesse MacGlashing, Kathy Boudreau,
Maryellen Plante Non member: Tina Montville
The minutes from the July meeting were accepted as written.
The budget was reviewed and we worked on our budget proposal for
the 2008 year which Jesse reported needs to be turned into the town
by August 30, 2007. If we request monies from the Capital Reserve
Fund for the Gazebo in Dustin’s Park, that proposal will need to be
completed and turned in by September 6, 2007. We decided to ask
for an increase to the basket ball program rather than requesting to
have it set up as a separate account at this point.
Minni reported that Chris Plante of CA Plante and Sons Construction
had inspected the gazebo in Dustin’s Park and had reported that the
columns could be repaired by having the base piece of each column
replaced. He suggested finding some one who could make the pieces
and then he would donate his time and crew to do the replacement
work.
Minni reported that about 35 children had participated in each of the
two session of swimming lessons. With better advertising next
summer we hope to run 3 sessions with the possibility of having one
session in the evening. The raft was discussed. Many parents have
asked about the raft not being in the water this summer. Tina
volunteered to look into whether it would be feasible to rebuild,
replace, or buy a new rubber raft for next year if we can get the
dredging done so that the pond is deep enough. Minni was asked to
try to get the cash register fixed so that the print out will be readable
so that we can keep track of how much money is taken in each day
for gate and concessions. She will also start keeping a log of those
monies when she can.
The End of Summer Celebration was discussed and the date was
changed from August 23 to August 22. The main reason for that
change is to do the celebration before Minni goes back to school.
There will be a cookout, bounce house, face painting, and games and
races. The recreation area will be open that day from 12- 7.
The Harvest Fest was then discussed. The date for Harvest Fest will
be October 27, 2007. The event will run from 3-7. It will be held at the
Recreation Area. Kathy had talked with Zach from PYW about the
possibility of them doing a haunted area on the far side of the area
across the bridge. She reported that they would do that. Jesse
reported that the band BLISS had been hired for that day at the cost
of $600- $300 to be paid up front and the balance due on the day of
the event. They will be asked to play from 4-6. Kathy asked Jesse to
have them send a contract so that we can ask Cara to make the two
payments. There will be a costume contest and a jack-o-lantern
contest. We will ask participants to bring carved jack-o-lanterns and
they will be lined up on the bridge. Plans are being made for hay
rides from 3-5. Minni will report back to the committee on this. Other
plans will be made at the September meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, September 10, 2007 at the
Town Hall.
