Speaker Shannon Swett from Capitol Region Community Prevention Coalition
Shannon agreed to meet with people/ businesses that would like to help
Talked about building regional coalition
Capitol Region Community Prevention Coalition received grant to build the program
Goal
Build Capacity
Reduce Substance abuse
Surveys done over nine months to help identify what the community needs
Youth Risk Survey Data- done in schools
Grant money will be for prevention, not intervention

Old Business
Internet Safety Class- we need to look into whether money was already funded to include coming to Pittsfield.
Could be funded through already existing grant
Neighborhood Watch. Officer Webber only received one call from an interested citizen
K-9 program
Discussion about whether a warrant article would be put together.
Discussion about how the warrant article process works
Reiterated pros and cons of K-9 program
Need to consult with lawyers in the area to what a K-9 can and cannot do
Next meetings scheduled for January 14th and 28th 2008

Dan Schroth- Is going to consult with County Diversion to see about his idea. Will have a better idea next
meeting.
Question from the public.- Is anyone working with the high-risk youth in town.
– Yes, but a lot of different people and angles
– There is a prospect of a Town Social Worker for these families
– The person would work 20 hours here and 20 hours somewhere else
School rep has not been attending committee meetings
