The meeting of the Trustees of the Josiah Carpenter Library was called to order at 6:28 pm on May 10, 2006, in the children’s room of the library.

In attendance were, Leslie Vogt, Bob Lemer, Mary Schelble, and Doug Andrews.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted.

The keys will be given to all trustees.

A note to the Friends of the library expressing thanks for the wonderful Open House they held was read and approved for sending.

The items from the estate of Arnold Wells have been delivered, and there was a discussion of how they will be displayed. A wall-hung case will be purchased for the coins, and the paintings will be displayed in appropriate places.

The Director’s and Treasurer’s reports were discussed and approved

There was some discussion of how the Library computers were being used and what measures we could be taken to protect the well-being of our patrons. This discussion will continue at the next meeting.

There was also a discussion of the Library hours and the survey that the Library Director had drafted. It was voted to use the survey with a few minor adjustments.

We also discussed the need for a way to better secure the Library when only one person is on duty. Some of the ideas included installing a bell at the back door, in order that it might be locked when there is only one person on duty. An intercom and alarm bell were also discussed.

The Director was encouraged to consider high school seniors as possible new help at the end of the summer.

It was decided to apply for a grant to purchase an audio download service.

The next meeting of the Trustees will be held on June 14, 2006, at 6:30 pm. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
