Pittsfield Economic Development Committee

1. Meeting opened at 5:35.

2. Attendees: Ed Vien (EV), Lyn Roberts (LR), Susan Muenzinger (SM), Ellen Barbasso (EB),
Linda Small (LS), and Matt Monahan (MM) representing CNHRPC.

3. Minutes from April 22, 2009 approved and accepted as written.

4. Wi-Fi
A. Clayton’s update
1. EV contacted Clayton and said we would like to go with option 3 (from his letter)
2. He will be the local tech contact between Single Digits and Pittsfield.
1. See item 5A from meeting on April 8, 2009.
B. Metrocast had several concerns
1. If someone misuses Wi-Fi they might be liable for damages
2. Would it interfere with them selling cable hookups and contracts locally (no because the range
is very small)
3. EV suggested to them that they could be an advertiser for the cost that they charge us.
C. Business for direct mail
1. MM drafted a letter that can be sent to businesses to see if they will advertise on Wi Fi
2. A suggestion was made to make the number of total log ins BOLD, as well as the average
number of log ins per day.
a. A few more businesses were added, and a few were removed
b. We will contact Pittsfield locations first then those in the near-by towns.

5. RSA 162-N (Economic Revitalization Zone Program)
A. It is a tax credit program for new and existing businesses to relocate, expand or create jobs
1. About 19 towns have used it already
2. We already meet some of the criteria regarding median income, percentage of households
below poverty level, and structures that are underused or vacant
3. Need to get permission by the town at town meeting

6. Business Survey
A. It is a way to contact businesses to find out their concerns and show we are interested
B. Those who return surveys will be entered into a drawing to get a face lift
1. Paint the front of their building
2. Get volunteers – possibly teens who need community service hours.

7. It was agreed that the Board of Selectmen should write a letter inviting Sharon Wason of CNHRPC
to speak to the town boards and committees about zoning regulations
