October 6, 2014 Meeting Minutes

Pittsfield Beautification Committee
Minutes
October 6, 2014

Carole opened the meeting at 7:10pm.

Members Present: Carole, Tina, Ted, Carol, Nancy, Jason, Diana and Gail

Members Absent: Paula

Secretary’s Report: The minutes of the September 2014 meeting were approved

Treasurer’s Report: Tina reviewed our proceeds from the Mum/Bake sale as well as donations from collection boxes and expenditures for dry erase boards, markers etc. It was decided to wait until spring to buy tables as well as a hose for the Washington House lot.

Old Business: Ted approached the Selectboard and received approval for the installation of 4 juniper conicals at the Veterans Memorial. He did some preliminary research on prices, which seemed a little high to the Committee, so we discussed purchasing only 2 trees. Jason said he would do some more research and see if he could get a better price.

Joe Darrah has not returned Carole’s phone calls concerning the water supply at the Aranosian Lot or the work to clear the lot. Because we realize that Joe is very busy right now we decided to wait until he contacts us when his seasonal workload slows down.

New Business: We welcomed new member Diana Bojarsky. We are excited to have her join the Committee. Carol will contact Linda McCoy to see if she is still interested in joining us.

It was decided to leave the collection boxes at the retailers through the winter. Carol will write a letter after Thanksgiving asking for holiday donations.

Ted found out that the Middle School students will be looking for Community Service credits and would be available on October 15th to help with the fall clean up on the 3 island gardens. He will contact Sarah, the school coordinator, to get the details and ask them to bring garden hand tools. At the time of the meeting, Ted believed that the kids would be available at 9:00 am. Teachers will supervise the kids while Carol, Tina and Nancy will supervise the clean up. We hope to have Jim Allard and Paul Richardson bring their pickups to dispose of the flowers. Carol will lightly prune the Washington House lot and we decided to leave the Aranosian lot alone, since it will be dismantled either this fall or in the spring. Carol will also take pictures of the islands so that we will have them for ideas for next year.

Next Meeting and Adjournment:

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, November 5th at 6:00 pm at Nancy’s home.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.
