Parks and Recreation Commission
September8, 2008

Members in attendance: Jesse MacGlashing, Kathy Boudreau, Lynda Vogt, Nick Abel; Visitor: Zach from PYW

The minutes from the August 18, 2008 meeting were approved as written.

Nick Abel was approved and sworn in as a new member of the Parks and Recreation Commission.

The treasurer’s report was given. The budget is due September 15th, so details were discussed. The revenue from the pool for the year was $7507.49, and from basketball, $8,102.49. Jesse reviewed the budget worksheet composed of this last year’s budget. It was suggested that the compensation line item be increase, as the pay scale for swimming instructors/life guards is far less than surrounding towns. Not all of the budgeted money was used this year due to the weather preventing the pool from being open on many occasions. Kathy will submit a summary of local area wages and the compensation budget will be adjusted, as appropriate.

Harvest fest was discussed in detail. It will be held Saturday, October 25th, At Dustin Park. The possibility of showing a movie was voted down, due to the cost and uncertainty that it would be well attended. The following activities will be included:
· Pumpkin carving
· School band, if available
· Other musical entertainment, provided by Gary Gadoury, if available
· Face painting
· Hay ride
· Pie eating contest
· Fire truck demonstration
· Interest in the 4H petting animals will be explored
· Interest in Nick Bachelder from Youth Venture to sell used sports equipment (profit goes back to the town) will be explored
· Vendors (possibilities include the scouts, snow mobile club, PYBA, and the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Responsibilites for each event were assigned. A summary of this will be prepared by Kathy and e-mailed to members. A flier will be inserted to the Pittsfield Sun and an advertisement place two weeks in advance. Other fliers will be posted around town and sent home from school.

The Parks and Recreation Commision e-mail aderess was discussed. It will be made public through the town website.

The meeting adjourned at 9:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Lynda Vogt (substituting for Maryellen Plante)
