Pittsfield Parks and Recreation
December 14, 2009
Members in attendance: Darrell Wages, Nick Abell, Lynda Vogt, Maryellen Plante
Visitor: Paula Driscoll, PYW
The minutes were approved for the October 12, 2009 meeting. There was no November meeting.

There was no treasurer’s report as Jesse was not in attendance. Nick reported that the select board had reduced our proposed budget by 6% to $20,844.16 from $26,200. Nick will check with Cara on the proposed budget Training line which is down to $150 from $1000. Minni is concerned that we will not have enough money for course reimbursement for life guard training.

Darrell has been approved by the BOS and now needs to be sworn in.

Harvest Fest Review: The music should have been done earlier, and we should try a different musician. Face painting should not be full face. We should be sure the pies are thawed out next year. We decided we should try to use the same pumpkin vendor next year. Darts were too dangerous. We should stay with doughnuts and cider, but will get fewer doughnuts next year. Appleview again donated the apple cider and only charged us for the containers. We need to address the bathroom issue next year and try to get more community involvement. A suggestion was made to ask the 4-H about having a petting zoo. We need to start planning in June and make sure we don’t pick the same weekend as the soccer jamboree.

Basketball: Darrell reported that we need more gym time. The fee for the coaches’ background checks for town volunteers is $25.25. We need to pay for that from our programming budget. Nick will hold on to the criminal record checks until the town comes up with a policy concerning them.

Recreation Area Dredging: Nick has sent the letters to the area abutters. The paperwork will be ready for submission in January.

Recreation Diving Board: There is a question about liability. LGC is working on a solution.

Gazebo in Dustin’s Park: The decorative caps need to be replaced. It has been determined that it is not a safety issue.

Life Guard Reimbursement: Minni and Nick reported that the BOS has approved a new policy for life guard reimbursement on November 16, 2009.
• 25% total reimbursement upon completion of a recognized Life guard training course
• 25% of total course at the successful completion of the season
• 25% if employee returns the following season

Winterfest: Paula Driscoll from PYW presented the proposed activities to be sponsored by PYW. They are requesting $977 in funding. Nick will check with Cara about applying for funds from the Sanderson Fund.

Minni will check with Kydstop to see if they want to get involved in some way. She will check with the Senior Center and Circle of Home and Family as well.

Next meeting: January 11, 2010

Respectfully submitted,
Maryellen Plante
