Pittsfield Economic Development Committee
February 12, 2014
1. Meeting opened at 5:30.
2. Attendees: Ted Mitchell (TM), Linda Small (LS), Paul Sherwood (PSh), Ellen Barbasso (EB) and Paul Skowron (PSk).
3. Minutes for January 22, 2014 were accepted and approved.
4. All Board /Committee Forum
A. Positive comments-It went very well
B. Length of it was a little too long-maybe try 1 1/2 to 2 hours instead of 3 hours
C. Need to keep a narrower focus
5. Action items from the Forum
A. Need to put Ted Mitchell’s number on EDC website as contact for EDC
B. Can the phone number at Town Hall be programmed to call forward to Ted’s number?
C. If not, put a message leaving his phone number for the caller.
6. EDC Flow Chart
A. TM created a flow chart for interboard/committee/public communications
B. PSh said he would be able to make a final copy using flow charts from the internet
C. Final one can be put in Town Hall and be sent to other boards and committees
7. Mission Statement is ready for Town Meeting
8. Vision Statement was finalized after some discussion and revisions
9. Elderly low income housing
A. Masterplan Committee is looking into housing for aging population
B. It is not part of the EDC’s focus but we are just being advised
C. Don’t need new buildings, but possibly renovate current ones to fit needs of elderly
10. Other items
A. PMHS and Globe Manufacturing are meeting together
1. Superintendent of Claremont School and Whelan Industries created a manufacturing curriculum
2. PMHS and Globe would like to use that curriculum to start something similar in our school
B. Eventually could reach out to other companies in the town
C. Give graduates a chance to have a job if they are not going to college.
11. Next All Chairmen meeting will be March 5, 2014 at 6:30
12. Next EDC meeting will be February 26, 2014 at 5:30 P.M.
