January 24, 2007
Members present: E.Bahr, W. Case. L. Deane, C. Dustin, G. Gilman, L. Okrent,
M. Paradise (School Board rep), J. Prue, H. Schoppmeyer, L. Small (Select
Board rep), M. Vaughan.
Absent: C. Keuenhoff
Meeting was called to order at 7:15 PM.
Minutes of January 17, 2007 meeting were approved as presented.
Mary Paradise answered some questions of the school budget that had been raised at the
previous meeting.
? 1-02-2120-53300 Guidance Prof Services $3200 was removed from this line
and moved to another account ….this will be used for the 7th grade orientation at
the Brown Center at UNH.
? 1-02 2190 Other Support Services The $18.000 was in another account, belongs
in the vision account…….for a visually impaired student who moved up from the
elementary school.
? 1-03-1100-51100 Reg Prog Teachers Salaries The removal of over $167,000
included a turnover and 1 position removed.
? 1-03-1100-51120 Reg Prog Sup Staff W/Retire $9618.58 This line item had
previously been split into four different lines – is now split 65 / 35 between the
high school and middle school
? 1-03-2120-53300 Guidance Professional Services The $3200 from 02-2120 was
moved to this line
Because of the changes in line items, new budgets had been printed and were handed out.
It was reported that the teachers are still in negotiations. If a settlement does not happen
before February 6, 2007, there will not be a contract to vote on at Town Meeting.
School Warrant Articles included the following:
To hear reports;
To fix salaries and compensation of any officers or agents of the School District;
To raise and appropriate $300,389.91 for support of School Lunch Program,
To raise and appropriate $25,000 for building maintenance projects,
To raise and appropriate $25,000 to be added to School Buildings Maintenance Fund,
To raise and appropriate $15,000 to be added to Special Eduation Fund previously
established.,
To raise and appropriate recommended amount of $9,059,836.26 for support of schools.
To create a planning committee to consider withdrawal from SAU #51.
Linda Small presented changes to the Town Budget.
Addition of a salary , including benefits , for a Town Administrator totaling $91,488.
Increases were made to the Fire Department Budget and the Fire/Ambulance Budget
as requested by the Fire Chief, Gary Johnson. Increase of $41,087 Union Increases
and $9937 Teamsters Union Increase. $100,000 in Town Hall Roof Repairs line
item , however there is already $75,000 in this account and there will be no tax
impact from this item.
It is estimated the proposed town budget will mean a $1.10 increase in the tax rate.
There will be no meeting on January 31, 2007. The next meeting will be held on
Wednesday, February 7 at 7PM at the Town Hall.
Voting dates will be set up for Monday, February 12, and Wednesday, February 14.
