Budget Committee
July 25, 2007
Members present: E.Bahr; W. Case; L. Deane; G. Gilman; C. Keuenhoff;
R. Morse; J. Prue; L. Small, Select Board representative; L. Vogt, School
Board representative.
Members not in attendance: L. Okrent; Merrill Vaughan; H. Schoppmeyer;
A. MacLellan.
Also attending – Peter Roche, the new SAU 51 Business Administrator.
Meeting was called to order by Cher Keuenhoff at 7PM.
The first business in order was the election of a Chairman and a Secretary
of the committee.
Joan Prue was elected to serve as Secretary; Cher Keuenhoff was elected
to serve as Chairman.
Mr. Roche was introduced to the committee members by Leslie Vogt, who will
serve on the committee this year as representative from the School Board.
Information handed out to members included the Pittsfield School District
Expenditure Report as of 6/30/2007; Budget Transfer Requests for November,
March, and June; and a list of the Function numbers for each school function
in the budget.
Explanations were presented by Ms. Vogt as follows: The School Budget was
frozen in October 2006 because of a significant increase in Special Education
expenses. Then in April the special education population changed again as
some students no longer were living in town. By the end of June the projected
school monies to be returned to the taxpayers was approximately $150,000, due
to a combination of unspent funds and additional special ed funding. The
projected additional income from the State of New Hampshire is $250,000.
These two additional revenues of about $400,000 will offset the
tax increase in the Fall tax bills.
The School Board will have the School Budget to the Budget Committee by
December 5, 2007. L. Small will try to have the Town Budget requests to
the committee by October 31 or November 7.
Members filled out a sheet with their phone numbers and email addresses.
Communication will be by email whenever possible. This list is attached to
these minutes. Also included is the year that each member’s term expires,
this being a 3 year appointment.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 7PM.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:30 PM.
