The minutes from the February meeting were approved as written.

The committee reviewed the Winterfest activities. Paula Driscoll reported on the PYW activities.

Jason reported that recreational basketball was winding down. He had gotten water bottles this year for each player instead of medals. He has not bought the portable hoops because of storage issues at the elementary school. He reported that he thought he could get smaller hoops for $500 if that would solve the storage issue. He said next year that he would like to organize the teams in a fairer way. Letters from Robert Thompson and Cindy Thompson were reviewed concerning a problem with one of the volunteer coaches acting in an unethical manner.

After much discussion about the situation, it was determined that the committee needed to set standards for the volunteers to be held to. We will do so by rewriting the Coaches Packet to include these guidelines. Also, we will be reforming our mission statement to focus on the true meaning of “Recreational Activities”. Going forward, the Recreation Committee will review and approve all who will be coaching the volunteer based basketball teams. This problem will be a good learning experience for the committee.

Carrie Johnson suggested that the committee consider getting involved in the Hershey Track and Field program. She believes it is free, that there are usually four children per team, and that it would take place sometime toward the end of June. She will look into the program further and report back to the committee for the April meeting.
Plans for the Easter Egg Hunt were discussed. The hunt will begin at 9:00 on March 22, 2008 by the gazebo in Drakes Field. We will need to meet at 7:30 to hide the eggs. Kathy had taken care of ordering the eggs. It was decided that there would again be three prizes for four age groups for those who find the golden eggs.

An advertisement for life guards and gate keepers at the pool will run in the Suncook Sun for 4 weeks. Minni will have information for the committee about the Recreation Area for the next meeting. It was also suggested that we put it in the little paper distributed in Barnstead and Alton.

Jesse talked about the Concord Sports Center for preseason training for baseball as another possible program. Jason suggested that he find out if the coach from there would be willing to come here to do a clinic at the high school.

Respectfully submitted,

Maryellen Plante, Secretary
