Town of Pittsfield DRAFT
Parks and Recreation
May 11, 2009

Members in attendance: Kathy Boudreau, Nick Abell, Lynda Vogt, and Maryellen Plante.

The minutes from the April meeting were approved as written. Jesse was unable to attend the meeting, so no treasurer’s report was given.

Nick reported that the select board wants clarification on the RSA concerning dredging at the recreation area. He was waiting to hear from Laurie Summers from the state. The pool will need to be filled early June so the dredging will have to be put off until fall. The electrical repairs needed at both Dustin Park and the recreation area will be put out to bid and hopefully will be done by Old Home Day. The bids will include fixing the columns and roof at Dustin Park along with the electrical needs.

A letter from Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce was reviewed. The letter was to inform us that there might be a lot of traffic in and around Dustin Park on Town Wide Yard Sale Day.

Minni reported on the progress of the recreation area opening. Sean Reese and Chris Ward will be employed as a returning guards and Brandon Patterson will be employed as a new guard. Rebekah Adams and Paige Corliss have been hired at gate keepers. Minni has given the names of all employees to the Chief of Police for approval. Then the select board will be given the list of names for their approval. The committee decided that they would reimburse Brandon for his life guard training course. He will be reimbursed 75% of the cost at the beginning of the summer and the other 25% upon completing the summer in good standing. The recreation area will open at 1:00 on June 19, the day the elementary school gets out for the summer. New ropes will be purchased. Minni will also get the water under the diving board measured for safety concerns.

Kathy spoke about the emergency action plan for White’s Pond Dam. Lynda said that the board of directors of Winsunvale would be discussing the plan and she would report back to the committee. There is concern that the spillway is not big enough for the amount of water.

A question was raised about someone using a metal detector at the recreation area. Minni will talk to the person and ask him to fill out a user request form.

Respectfully submitted,

Maryellen Plante
