Pittsfield Parks and Recreation Committee
November 8, 2010 Meeting
Present: Darrell Wages, Jesse MacGlashing, Maryellen Plante, Lynda Vogt
Absent: Nick Abell
Public: James Zensky
The secretary’s report was accepted for the October meeting as written. Jesse made the motion and Darrell seconded. Jesse said the budget looks good. The supply budget was over spent by $600, but only $1900 of the programming budget had been spent. It was suggested that we ask the town to take the criminal record checks from the programming line. We have about $3300 left in the overall budget. Basketball and skiing will take some of that money.
Ski Program: James reported that there were about 13 children signed up. There are signed up for two dates in January and two dates in February. He has volunteers for chaperoning the slopes, the lodge, and the bus driver.
FB Argue Pool Area: We will consider doing a beginning of summer celebration to help build interest at the Recreation Area. We went into non-public session to discuss an employee issue. It was also suggested that we advertise in the Concord Monitor to attract more people.
Harvest Fest Review: It was decided that we should sell hot dogs and hamburgers again next year. Doing this, we could get less cider and doughnuts. There were 2 gallons of cider left and 3or 4 boxes of doughnuts. Other food and drinks left from the pool area were donated to Kydstop and the fire department. The hayride went well. We should maybe have someone manage the line. We will need to remember to bring some better knives for pumpkin carving. The 100 pumpkins seemed like a good amount. We need to be sure that the town does not pay for the potable potty as they didn’t show up. Advertising the scarecrow contest and maybe having materials for building them there was discussed. The music was good. We decided to ask the town to write a check to Brandon Ward for $50 as a thank you. Advertising needs to be done earlier especially if we provide other entertainment.
Basketball: Jay Darrah volunteered to do the finger printing. Darrell will hold a coaches meeting on December 5, at the Pittsfield Community Center. Darrell reported that some one had found our basketballs so we don’t need to buy more.
Christmas Tree Lighting: The Chamber of Commerce asked if Parks and Recreation could supply 4 cans of hot chocolate mix for the tree lighting festivities on December 4. Minni will pick up the hot chocolate at Sam’s Club.
Winterfest: Last year we got $1025 from the Sanderson to cover PYW expenses. Lynda and Minni will be working during that week and will not be around that week during the day. Planning will begin at the December meeting. Minni will contact PYW so that Paula and Zach will know when our meeting is to be held.
